traces of inheritance reshaped in abstraction

About

In the form of multi-media painting, I recast the rhythms and patterns of everyday objects from the past.

Inheritance Paintings

Anchored in things inherited from my mothers home-making:

Camilla Series

a vibrant combination of oil and acrylic spray paints on canvas, this series explores the visual language of pattern arising from the long history of Spode ‘Camilla’ Porcelain

Doily Series

collaged and stencilled onto canvas, everyday paper doilies are lifted into a shadowy world in works that carry a Dickensian sense of melancholy

Candelabra Series

musing over the shifting nature of candles and candlesticks, these rhythmic blue watercolours on paper feature wax relief marks of silver, red and graphite made from used candle stubs

Experiments

I am now experimenting with how to acknowledge the complexity of gendered and transnational histories carried within the objects that anchor my paintings
